Palette Club Exhibition

Mon 30 Jul 2012 - 15 Aug 2012 at Greenbank High School, Hastings Road, Southport
Promoter: Southport Palette Club
Tickets: -

The Southport Palette Club annual exhibition will return to the town in 2012. This follows two years of the exhibition being successfully displayed in the ballroom at Bootle Town Hall, a move made necessary due to the redevelopment of the Atkinson Art Gallery as part of the Cultural Centre on Lord Street.

With the Cultural Centre not scheduled to open until 2013, the council members of the Palette Club decided it was important to open the next exhibition in Southport. The 87th exhibition will now take place in July and August 2012, at Greenbank High School, Hillside. The venue offers an excellent exhibition space, combined with good public transport links and car parking.

This popular exhibition which started in 1921, has built up a reputation for excellence over the years, becoming the Atkinson Art Galleryʼs major draw in terms of visitor numbers. We are confident that the 87th exhibition will continue to reflect this, and we look forward to welcoming both regular and new exhibitors to Greenbank.

Information will be regularly updated on the website www.southportpaletteclub.org.uk

Art Exhibition

Sat 12 May 2012 - 13 May 2012 at St Mary’s Millennium Hall, West Derby Village
Promoter: Millennium Hall Art Group
Starts: 10am - 4pm / Tickets: Free Admission

Exhibition of original paintings by Millennium Hall Art Group. Exhibits include personal favourites and local (West Derby) landmarks.

About 10 years ago, several people enrolled for an Art Class in LCC Newsham Drive.  The social ties that developed within the group more than matched their achievements and ultimate qualifications so when, after a few years, Liverpool City Council told them they could no longer provide a class for them, the group decided to “stick together and do their own thing”.

Unable to gain any financial support from the Council, the group hired a hall and continued to meet and paint.  Then three years ago we moved into Millennium Hall to enjoy first class accommodation, car parking and full support from the Hall Management which enables us to invite professional artists along to demonstrate now and again.

Sadly, over the years, some of the original members have died or have left through ill health, but our new members share our enthusiasm and the group meets religiously every Thursday morning between 10 am and 12 pm.

The Art Exhibition on Saturday and Sunday, 12 and 13 May 2012  is our first “stand alone” exhibition.  We will be displaying a wide variety of paintings, plus a stand dedicated to West Derby Village landmarks, hopefully reflecting the unique and colourful history of the area and its huge character and beauty.

Some of the pictures will be available for sale, but this is not a commercial venture; the pictures are up for people to view and, we hope, enjoy.  The exhibition may also provide some inspiration to those who have retired and whose present interests are limited to football or the “X-Factor”!  (We do have a couple of vacancies at the moment!)

Crosby Capriol Singers - Choir

Tue 17 Apr 2012 at Christ Church, Waterloo
Promoter: Crosby Capriol Singers
Tickets: -

Why Join a Choir

A New Challenge: Learning to sing is a challange in itself, but learning to sing with others is a skill that makes the singing experience all the more rewarding.

Social Benefits: As with a club or society, membership will not only enhance your circle of friends but also your social life. Some choirs even partake in an annual tour which can be great fun as well as a fantastic life experience.

Education: There is a wealth of choral music to discover and being part of a choir is one way of finding some of the hidden gems of the choral repertoire. If you're new to music and singing, it will also encourage you to learn basic singing technique and music theory.

Health Benefits: Singing is an ideal way to relax and relieve stress as it provides an outlet from the pressures of daily life.

We welcome new members, especially in the tenor and bass parts - but whatever your voice, why not come along to a rehearsal to try us out for a couple of weeks before you make up your mind.

We meet at Christ Church, Waterloo, every Tuesday from 7.45pm - 9.45pm. If you email us beforehand a committee member will meet you and introduce you to someone in your section to make sure you feel at home.

Email us at joinus@crosbycapriolsingers.co.uk

We strive to attain a high standard, so there is an audition, but you will find this very friendly and informal. You will need to sing a song of your choice - no need for anything fancy, but make sure it is one you know well. then there will be some scales to check your range and a simple sight-reading test.

The membership includes people of a wide age range and many different backgrounds. Some of us like to do solos and some wouldn't dream of it!. Some are fluent sight readers and others like to learn by ear. If you have ever thought of singing in a choir then why not come along.

If you would like to know more about joining the choir give the secretary, Dennis Morley a call on 0151 931 2346.

Protein Dance Company – LOL (Lots of Love)

Sat 31 Mar 2012 - 31 Mar 2012 at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park, Longview Drive, Huyton, Liverpool, L36 6EG
Doors: 6.30pm / Starts: 7.30pm / Tickets: Tickets: £9.50 (£7.50 Concs)
Website: http://www.knowsley.gov.uk/tickets

An award winning Dance Company is coming to Knowsley with a smash- hit take on the age of the Social Media.

Protein Dance will perform LOL (lots of love) at the Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park at Longview Drive in Huyton on Saturday March 31 at 7.30pm.

They will also be running workshops for local schools on Thursday March 29 and a schools matinee performance on Friday March 30 at 1.30pm.

It is a fast paced show of dance and talk where dancers place the world of emailing, texts and tweets before the audience.

Protein’s creator Luca Silvestrini says “The show is about the search for love and companionship in a vastly better connected but increasingly isolated global society”.

Social media images are played on three giant screens behind the dancers and a keyboard-like tapping sound fills the show’s score.Protein’s six dancers stylishly nail the language of life online, talking and dancing at speed and making straight-to-the-audience confessionals. With video animation by Rachel Davies and original music by Andy Pink, these ingredients conjure a razor-sharp commentary on our Facebook society, and affecting rendering of human need.

Cllr Eddie Connor, Knowsley’s cabinet member for Leisure, Community and Culture said “Protein is one of the top dance companies in the country, their work has humour but also some sadness, communicated through amazing dance. This is a show for everyone, not just dance fans. Let’s face it, we’re all up to our necks in the world of texts and tweets so to see that brought to life in dance will be amazing.”

It is aimed at an audience over the age of 12, and there will be a chance to talk to the dancers at the end.

For more information about the workshops and the matinee performance call 0151 443 5619.

There are full bar and catering facilities at the Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park on the night of performances and plenty of free car parking at the side of the building.

Are you interested in improving your health and wellbeing?

Do you enjoy being creative?

Would you like to meet new people?

Do you want to try something new in a fun and relaxed environment?

Then Creative Alternatives might be for you. Come and find out about Sefton’s award winning arts & wellbeing programme at our forthcoming taster workshops!

You can come to all workshops or just drop into any one of them – for free! No need to book!

Tuesdays, 17th January – 7th February 2012 @ Formby Library (2 – 4pm)

What is Creative Alternatives?

Creative Alternatives is Sefton’s arts on prescription programme for people experiencing stress, depression and/or anxiety. We run creative workshops across Sefton, exploring many different arts media.

We also have monthly social outings which are a nice way to meet new people, to spend some time with other people taking part in the programme and to find out what is happening on the local arts scene.

All our workshops and outings are free of charge and all materials are provided, however unfortunately we are not able to fund any additional

expenses, such as travel or child care. No previous experience is necessary! We work with people of all artistic abilities – there is no pressure to create something beautiful. It’s more about getting involved, exploring and having fun!

How to join the programme

You can ask your GP, counsellor or other mental health service professional to refer you, or you can self refer by contacting the programme’s Referral Officer, Anisa Saleh. If you self‐refer we will ask you for details of a professional whom we can contact for a reference.

To find out more, and to join the programme call or email us!

Nicola Jones, Museums and Galleries Officer said:

"Sefton are very lucky to have such a diverse selection of museum collections and Sefton Arts recognises the need to encourage access to such important local historical objects.  With all the paintings featuring local Churchtown scenes, Churchtown Libray was the obvious choice."
