Hailed by The Guardian for his “exquisite guitar” playing, flamenco jazz guitarist and composer Eduardo Niebla appears at The Atkinson, Southport’s new arts centre, with his acclaimed trio on Friday 5th July 2013.
Brilliantly accompanied by Carl Herring (guitar) and Dharmesh Parmar (Indian tabla), Eduardo will present his wonderfully invigorating and “poignantly poetic” (Scotsman) fusion; a sophisticated mix of flamenco and Latin jazz intertwined with classical traditions, Eastern colours and a gypsy jazz edge. And it is the very lyrical and passionate quality of his playing, as well as his phenomenal guitar technique, which makes each experience incredibly inspiring.
In a career spanning four decades, Eduardo Niebla has been acclaimed as one of the most potent forces in flamenco jazz today. His impressive list of collaborations includes Nishat Khan (sitar), Lol Coxhill (sax), the Dante Quartet, George Michael and Craig David, as well as work for festivals, films and plays, including for the BBC, and with poets Fran Landesman, Mike Horovitz and recently Ian McMillan.
Eduardo was born in Tangiers, grew up in Girona Spain and moved to London in 1978, where he has since been regarding as one of the outstanding guitarists of his generation.
“An imaginative and stimulating instrumental set in which flamenco is infused with classical Indian music and a contemporary jazz edge… top-class playing and beautiful themes… wonderful tracks which completely enfold the listener.”(Songlines)
“A stunning collection of originals… showing what Jelly Roll Morton called the Spanish ‘tinge’ is still a potent force.” (Jazz UK).
